Flavored Edible Straws

Diageo is Creating Ecological Straws That are Meant to Be Eaten

Straws have become the latest target in ecological initiatives and drink giant Diageo is hoping to flex its eco-friendly credentials with the release of flavored edible straws. Meant to accompany the newest release of ready-to-drink canned cocktails, these edible straws are featured in three flavors: lime, strawberry and chocolate. These flavors are meant to work with the premixed cocktails, which will be available as a gin and tonic, a Pimm's and a Baileys and iced coffee latte. Unlike biodegradable straws, these edible offerings aim to enhance the overall drinking experience while addressing an ecological issue.

Diageo has yet to announce what the edible straws will be made of but the company has expressed its interest in fully removing straws from all of its worldwide operations. The straws will be officially launched in August 2018 and will be sold exclusively through retailer 31Dover.
