These Photos Capture the Moment Swimmers are Submerged in Water

Dunking underwater in cold temperatures does not sound like something that makes for the best photo op for most people, but photographer Daan Verhoeven disagrees.

The artist is known for capturing beautiful underwater photos and was attending the free diving world championships in Turku, Finland when he decided to take advantage of the dunking pool it offered. The pool's temperature rests at 39 degrees Fahrenheit and the photographer decided to take photos of the moment that swimmers were dunking underwater. The photos are playful and funny and capture the pain and enjoyment with which people partaking in the series react to being in water that is almost freezing cold.

The artist was able to capture art in a setting where photography and artistic abilities are far from most people's minds.
