Bone-Shaped Dog Kennels

Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects Creates an Interesting Kennel Design

Over the last couple of years, modern designers and architects have embarked on creating slick, contemporary pet products that combine aesthetics with functionality, and most recently, Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects entered the inaugural Barkitecture competition at Goodwoof with an interesting dog kennel design.

Named Bonehenge, the silhouette of the dog kennel is oval and it features playful bone-shaped columns. Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects was inspired by "ancient structures and the inherent circling characteristics of cocker spaniels before they lay down to rest." In fact, the architectural practice's director, Richard Portchmouth, turned to his own cocker spaniel (named Illy) for inspiration, as well. The contemporary studio drew on these themes when designing the dog kennel which ended up winning Goodwoof's Barkitecture competition.
