1000 People Gather in White for 'Diner en Blanc' in New York City

Last week about 1,000 people gathered in Manhattan's Battery Park City to enjoy an elegant meal dressed all in white. No, they weren't just making the most of the small window to enjoy white fashion before Labor Day (does anyone even follow that rule?), they were inspired by a Parisian tradition called Diner en Blanc.

To ensure things stayed spontaneous, the event location wasn't revealed to participants until shortly before the dinner was to begin. Diner en Blanc participants then headed down to enjoy the sunset, jazz music and a beautiful dinner overlooking the harbor. How romantique!

Many of the guests came by subway, carrying tables and chairs, and then were served champagne and wine over white table cloths.

As the photos show, Diner en Blanc guests opted for a range of different white outfits including long and short summer dresses, white shorts and shirts and even accessories like white turbans and feather headpieces.
