Eco-Friendly Wooden Jeans

The New Wooden Jeans are a Sustainable Alternative to Denim

Dawn Ellams, a PhD researcher at Scotland’s Heriot-Watt University has come up with a more environmentally friendly denim alternative. "Traditional cotton jeans carry a substantial carbon footprint with each single pair requiring 42 liters of water, along with up to 15 dyeing vats full of harmful chemicals to produce" explains Charley Cameron.

Dawn Ellams’s production, which is marketed under the name of Tencel are made out of sustainably sourced wood pulp and require require only one fifth of the water, energy and chemicals of their conventional denim production. The brand Tencel is trademarked for its use of lyocell, which is a natural cellulosic fiber with moisture absorption, as well as a silky result.
