Yamato Transport and DeNA are Launching a Self-Driving Car in Japan

In March 2017, delivery company Yamato Transport and IT company DeNA are aiming to have their co-created self-driving delivery van hit the road. These autonomous delivery vehicle known as 'Roboneko' has been designed specifically as a way to help items ordered via online shopping make their way to consumers. The two companies plan that consumers will be able to order items from an app and instantly be able to see an item being delivered on-demand.

For a trial period, a human will be stationed inside the autonomous vehicle as a precaution.

There is also set to be a "shopping agent service" available, which will make it possible for the vehicles to pick up items purchased from a second party. This service was specifically implemented for the convenience of large families and the senior population in Japan.
