The Daeyang Gallery and House by Steven Holl is an architectural masterpiece that fuses land and water into one tranquil space. The New York architect constructed the building to be a multi-functional and transformative space. The top floors house a submerged gallery and event space, while the bottom floor serves as the owner’s residential home.
The copper structure’s most extraordinary feature is the above-ground pool engulfing the top of the property. The glass walls and endless skylights allow light to penetrate throughout the residence. Holl claims the building’s geometry was designed with a ratio that follows a musical composition by Hungarian-Canadian composer Istvan Anhalt. The artistic formation can be seen most prominently in the 55 skylights above the gallery.
