The Adidas 3D-Printed Custom-Fit Shoe is Based on One's Footprints

Gone are the days of expensive orthopedic insoles with adidas' new 'Futurecraft' custom-fit shoes. The 'Futurecraft' is a 3D-printed sole that uses a layered latticework design that mimics a runner's footprint.

While it is just a prototype for now, the future process for creating these custom-fit shoes will be an interactive experience for the consumer. Upon arrival at an adidas store location, your feet will be 3D-scanned, the sensors taking in unique pressure points and arches that are particular to the individual's foot. Using this footprint scan, the 3D-printer will then create a custom-tailored sole to be used in the production of the lightweight sneaker.

Their latticework design makes them extremely breathable and flexible -- perfect for sports and running. The finished product will result in more supportive running shoes that are orthopedic without the price tag.
