These Special Edition Coins are Shaped Like Baseballs and Gloves

The United States mint will be issuing its first ever curved coin in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which will be marked on March 27th 2014. The coin will be concave in shape and combine depictions of a glove and ball, the most basic of baseball equipment.

The coin was designed by Cassia McFarland, winner of a nationwide competition held to determine the best coin design to mark the occasion. The obverse or 'heads' side of the coin depicts a glove, while the reverse 'tails' surface features a beautiful baseball design. The two sides of the coin elegantly combine the two symbols of America's favorite pastime. The coins' obverse sides will also feature inscriptions of the words 'Liberty', 'In God We Trust' and '2014.'

The coin collection will include $5 gold, $1 silver and a half-dollar clad coins. Prices will range from $35 for each gold coin, $10 for each silver coin and $5 for each half-dollar coin.
