Behemoth Cargo Ships

The CSCL Globe is the World's Largest Container Ship

The CSCL Globe is a humongous capacity container ship that measures 400 meters in length and 58.6 meters wide -- the size of four soccer fields. It can carry 19,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit shipping containers. Constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries for China Shipping Container Lines, the CSCL Globe is already on its maiden voyage, with four more being ordered by China Shipping Container Lines.

Despite being the same length as the Maersk Triple E class container ships -- and 0.4 meters thinner -- the CSCL Globe can carry more shipping containers. This is because it features an extra draft of 30.5 meters compared to the Maersk Triple E's 14.5 meters.

The ship has an electronically controlled main engine that adjusts fuel consumption based on speed and sea conditions, allowing it to burn 20% less fuel.
