20th-Century Corner House Renovations

Unknown Architects Fuse Historic Tradition with Modernism

Amsterdam-based design firm Unknown Architects embarks on a corner house renovation process that will honor traditions and celebrate contemporary sensibilities. Situated in Leiden, the Netherlands, the 20th-century home is spacious, bright and has a certain character that loosely ties to classical architectural movements.

The beautiful dwelling has undergone a number of refurbishing processes that haven't quite exactly honored its historically relevant aesthetic. Therefore, when Unknown Architects took on the project, the firm aimed to "celebrate [the house's] core qualities." In doing so, the studio creates an interesting fusion between two timeless designs — the classical and the modern.

As contemporary stylings with the flair of the traditional are popular today, Unknown Architect's approach to the corner house renovation is really no surprise.
