Mixtura Unveils a New Convent in Salvador de Bahia

Italian design studio Mixtura unveils a convent located in Salvador de Bahia in Brawl that is made up of a plethora of buildings that are arranged around open-air cloisters. All of this is notably wrapped in a wooden brise soleil and can be found in the São Cristóvão neighborhood. The new space is meant to function as a safe meeting space for a large community in what is known as a dangerous area of Salvador de Bahia.

The studio explains that "We reinterpreted the classical introverted conventual typology, multiplying the number of cloisters and thinning out the buildings to allow the wind, which constantly blows from the east, to reach all the buildings and open areas. Each building maintains its own architectural identity, obtained through the declination of the wooden element, which sometimes has a bioclimatic function, sometimes it is a structure and cladding."
