Richard Jackson is no stranger to controversy, and his most recent exhibit reacquaints him with both criticism and acclaim. Returning to Los Angeles with his first solo exhibit in 20 years, Jackson aims to push the boundaries of physical and conceptual painting while reasserting his flair for the dramatic.
Being shown at the David Kordansky Gallery, Jackson’s The Little Girl’s Room is a playfully disturbing depiction that resembles the room of a child. The centerpiece is a unicorn balancing on its horn, embraced by a life-sized doll, spinning atop a motorized platform. As the centerpiece spins, paint sprays from the horse’s genitals, giving life to three-dimensional objects in the room.
