Elaborately Contrasting Design Cuts

Carven's Fall 2018 Designs are Derived from People-Watching

Designer Serge Ruffieux injects Carven's Fall 2018 Ready-to-Wear line with a wide range of different elements and the result is a wildly contrasting design collection. As a result, it is difficult to pinpoint at first glance exactly from where the fashion house derives its modern deco straight-cut coats, front-shoulder flower stamps, Native-inspired footwear and decidedly avant garde silhouettes. The contrasting design elements only come into a sound context, when Serge Ruffieux reveals that his main inspiration stemmed from "pounding Parisian streets, [whilst] people-watching."

It makes for a lively artistic collection that adds an intimate and personal twist into the societal narrative of fashion movements. Instead of Carven informing the people what is on-trend for Fall 2018, the label utilizes contrasting designs to give back the expressiveness of fashion to the individual. In other words, giving the power back to "ordinary" people.
