Kat Von D recently revamped one of her most popular products in her makeup range called the Shade + Light Contour Palette to be entirely vegan and free of any animal product ingredients. The new kit, fittingly entitled Shade + Light Contour Palette 2.0, removes any aspects of the previous formula that were derived from animals, such as the use of carmine.
Previously the contour kit contained carmine which is found in insects to create red tones in cosmetic pigments. The kit is now entirely carmine-free, and instead opts for natural and vegan ingredients to create equally as vivid and opaque shades.
As consumers seek to change their diets to be more plant-based, shoppers are also searching for products they apply onto their skin to be made of similar environmentally friendly ingredients.
