Holey Point-and-Shoots

The Conran Concept Camera Has a Generous Open Aperture as a Viewfinder

The Conran Concept Camera isn't the first example of a cutting-edge device redesign I've seen that actually eliminates the digital display. The creative team behind this clever gadget strove to create a more tangible connection between the photographer and his subject.

This was done by integrating a generous viewfinder in the very middle of the digital camera. Essentially a circular hole, this opening invites the user to peek through it and use its perimeter to help frame his snapshot. Without being able to see the resultant capture, the old chance and mystery are reintroduced to the art of photography.

The absence of a screen also means that the functions of the Conran Concept Camera must be adjusted with dials, switches and buttons built into the casing of the gadget. The reimagination makes for an ultimately more hands-on experience of picture-taking.
