Emma Kaywin, a New York University design student upcycled condoms that had passed their sell-by date into condom couture. The resulting creations were displayed as part of the NYU Gallatin School’s eco Fashion Week in January 2010. Not only did the rescued condoms contribute to Kaywin’s design project, they were not thrown into the landfill.
Whether anyone would actually wear condom couture is questionable, but the latex-laden project brought attention to the environment, birth control, and the AIDS prevention organization that donated the contraceptives.
