Computer-Coded Artwork

This Computer Artwork Was Designed by a Human and Drawn by a Machine

Artist Miguel Nobrega creates amazing computer artwork using coding and felt pens.

In his series of illustrations 'Superficie: Possible, plausible, potential,' Nobrega demonstrates the power of computer coding to imagine as-yet unseen structures. Nobrega uses a code to program a drawing device. The device draws the image that the code dictates over and over, with Nobrega switching the color and thickness of the pens to produce different iterations of the computer artwork. In the online exhibition, the pieces are divided into three categories: possible structures, potential sculptures and plausible spaces. Each one displays an increasing level of realism.

This project is a fascinating examination of a computer's potential ability to create artwork, directed by the power of a human imagination.
