Chic Compostable Dinnerware

Verterra Leaf Dishes

According to Verterra, not all compostable dinnerware is made equal. Most compostable dishes on the market cannot be microwaved or put in the oven, and are made from food crops that could have been used to feed people and animals. These other options often use binders like glue to hold their form, and, what's more, they simply don't look good.

Enter Verterra compostable dishes. This dinnerware can be microwaved (for up to 2 minutes), baked (up to 350 degrees for 45 minutes), refrigerated, and frozen. There are no bioplastics, plastics, glues, or binders. Verterra dinnerware is made from fallen plantation leaves and can be reused several times until it naturally biodegrades in two months.

At the factory, the fallen leaves are sprayed with high-pressure water, steamed, UV sterilized, and shaped. Over 80% of the water used to make Verterra compostable dishes is recaptured. According to Verterra, the entire process uses only a fraction of the energy used in recycling. What an excellent usage of leaves that would have been otherwise burned!
