Nwankpa Design Creates a Functional Space for a Mother to Work

At first glance, the Cumberland Hideaway project by Californian studio Nwankpa Design is a compact and colorful room with modern sensibilities. However, the space carries much more significance than that for the client who is a working mother.

The colorful room is rectangular in shape and it is "located within a suburban, ranch-style home in Los Angeles." Previously a garage and then a storage area, this space is now a private sanctuary where the mother can work, breastfeed, and indulge in exercising. Nwankpa Design focused on a vibrant color palette, translated into the space through the color-blocking style. The practice also focused on combining design elements and furniture in a way that doesn't make the room feel too crowded. The skylight that supplements the design surely helps with that, as well.
