Birmingham's Colorful Road Adds a Rave Vibe to Nighttime Driving

Artist Bill FitzGibbons was recently hired by Birmingham, Alabama, to create a fun and colorful road beneath a large highway. FitzGibbons painted a highway underpass with a plethora of neon colors, using glow-in-the-dark paints. The result is a seriously vibrant highway underpass that has successfully made motorists' journey a tad more interesting.

FitzGibbons used a spectrum style while painting the underpass, meaning he used a single color painted in a stripe, then added a different colored stripe next to it, then another, and so on. This creates a sort of technicolor rainbow that makes drivers feel as if they're driving through some sort of science fiction time portal.

With this gorgeous underpass design, FitzGibbons has proven that urban locations can still become beautiful with a little artistic flair and a lot of creativity. Public works like this demonstrate that city citizens can relate to one another through something as small and exciting as a single piece of art.
