Romanticized Color-Blocking

Color-blocking

This season’s color-blocking trend relies on strong shapes and the juxtaposition of bright complimentary colors which produced a luxury-sportswear effect. In the May 2011 issue of Vogue Italia, fashion editor Jakob K re-interprets the trend and shows us a more romantic take of color-blocking.

Tim Walker shoots model Stella Tennant in colorful outfits which include pieces by Italian brands Prada, MiuMiu, Missoni and Gucci. The ensembles are infused with eastern-inspired slouching silhouettes, draping and accessories which give the photoshoot a romantic sophistication.

As if to link the enthusiasm that Italian designers have shown for the color-blocking trend with deep-rooted tradition and culture, the photoshoot is infused with Commedia dell’Arte iconography such as half-faced masks, laces and tricorn hats. Through clever styling and cultural references, Jakob K managed to produce fresh new images of the already omnipresent color-blocking trend.
