Coffee Project New York Debuts its 'Colombia Maragesha'

Coffee Project New York, an independent roaster and educational center based in New York, has released a new limited-edition offering, 'Colombia Maragesha,' a single-origin coffee sourced from the Quindío region of Colombia. This release is part of the company’s focus on highlighting distinctive, small-lot coffees with unique origins.

Grown at 2,050 MASL on Finca Jardines del Encanto, Maragesha is a hybrid of two established coffee cultivars—Gesha and Maragogipe. First identified "by Colombian producer Luis Aribal Calderon in 2017, the varietal is currently cultivated for export by only three farms in Colombia." Maragogipe, on the other hand, is "a natural mutation of Typica discovered in Brazil in 1870, is noted for its large bean size and subtle flavor but is low-yielding." Combined with Gesha, which is recognized for its floral character, the hybrid presents a complex profile.

Naturally processed, this lot received a cupping score above 90. Tasting notes include strawberry candy, pink lemonade, gardenia, and white tea, with medium acidity and a juicy body.
