Who would have guessed the menacing villain Carnage from the Spider-Man franchise would look so convincing as Uncle Sam in this illustration by comic book artist Clayton Ryder Crain? Commissioned to render the covers of Carnage U.S.A. volumes 1 to 5, Crain has anachronistically placed the serial-killing alien symbiote in a variety of patriotic images that, no doubt, relate to the plot of each issue. Still, it’s quite disturbing to see the devilish Carnage looking as though he’s on the side of good for a change.
