The Claire Huish 'Drive' Photoshoot Mixes Contemporary with Retro

Claire Huish is a young, London-based photographer with an eye for capturing models in high-fashion shoots that somehow retain a deeply personal sense of intimacy.

In Claire Huish's 'Drive' editorial, she photographs Model Justine of Models 1 in a series of lush outfits that are the typical province of a Japanese geisha girl, blended with the vintage 80s tackiness that added to the aura of Ryan Gosling's badass character in the 2011 movie, Drive.

Though Claire Huish only recently completed her BA in Photography from the Arts University College, Bournemouth, this past June, she has been a working photographer for years, earning accolades like the prestigious Young Fashion Photographer of the Year award in 2009.

My favorite shot in the Claire Huish 'Drive' editorial is the lead image. The model, Justine, sits with her back arched high, her face contorted into a dispassionate glare. Despite the ostensibly uninviting nature of the model's body language, the photo is alluring, mysterious and captivating.

She may be young, but it's clear that Claire Huish has a skill for mixing old with new. With talent like this, it won't be long before her work begins landing between pages of the fashion world's most important international magazines.
