Life-Size Pencil Drawings

Chris Laporte Drew a Gigantic Life-Size Drawing of an Old Marching Band

Artist Chris LaPorte has produced a gigantic replica of an 80-year-old photograph that features his grandfather’s old high school marching band. The amazing part about this large drawing is that it spans the size of 13 feet by 26 feet and was drawn using over 100 2H pencils and took Chris roughly 1,200 hours to complete.

Chris attended the New York Academy of Art and works in Michigan as a caricature artist. Chris has been spending the majority of his time drawing over 85,000 portraits for the past 18 years. When Chris is not drawing his caricatures, he spends his time drawing gargantuan, life-size pencil drawings.

The ‘City Band’ drawing won the top ArtPrize honor at the GRAM in Grand Rapids and is more of an interpretation of what the old photo looks like, due to the poor quality of the image.
