3D Super Mario Chalk Art

Chris Carlson Creates Nintendo Characters That Pop Out of the Ground

Artist Chris Carlson creates an amazing portrait of Super Mario that's made entirely from chalk.

The process is recorded in a time-lapse video recording from the very beginning of the piece's creation. The three-dimensional illusion makes it look as if Mario is hopping off the ground. The three minute time-lapse video shows a rapid pace of the process, but it took Carlson roughly 11 hours of hard work and dedication to complete.

This anamorphic chalk art was created in Denver, Colorado. At the beginning of the process, viewers can see Carlson's precision and meticulous detailing. Geometric lines were used as a starting point, which eventually was erased and replaced by a pixelated 3D Super Mario.
