Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is Currently Testing Chocolate Beignets

While Popeye's most recent hit may have been its spicy chicken sandwich, now the chain is focusing its attention on its sweeter offerings by testing out chocolate beignets.

For those unfamiliar, a beignet is a fried pastry that's commonly enjoyed in New Orleans as a breakfast served with powdered sugar on top. Now it seems that Popeyes is paying homage to its New Orleans roots by testing out its own version of the deep fried treat. Currently in the testing phase, Popeyes' chocolate beignets consist of fried dough stuffed with a chocolate center and dusted with powdered sugar. As Popeyes clarified in a recent interview, "As a brand from New Orleans we are always looking to bring new dishes and desserts from our hometown to the menu, but at this time the beignets are only available at select restaurants."
