Sophia Pelka, Trend Hunter (INTERVIEW)

Pelka on Children's Book Readings with Christopher Walken

Sophia Pelka is a fan of Christopher Walken, especially when he does children's book readings on YouTube. With a distinct voice and a dry sense of humor, Mr. Walken is an ideal choice to head the reading of 'Where the Wild Things Are,' as he infuses his sarcastic and comedic persona into it. Just like one of her favorite actors, Ms. Pelka also has a quirky and spontaneous charm to her, as she explains her wild ten day adventure at a music festival. With her brazen and no-nonsense attitude, Sophia offers some interesting and insightful advice worth listening to.

What is your favorite trend and why?

My favorite trend is quirky children's book readings. In this particular one Christopher Walken reads 'Where the Wild Things Are' and it's really amusing. It goes through a merging of the digital worlds and an old school nostalgic idea. The best part about it is that it's Christopher Walken and it's completely sarcastic. It's making fun of all of the illustrations in the most innocent way that you can make fun of a kids book while still appealing to an adult audience. Christopher Walken is a genius and Where the Wild Things Are is iconic, so merging the two into one platform on YouTube is perfect.

How do you define cool?

I would define cool as always effortless. If you start trying, you're not cool, you are trying. You just have to let it flow, be yourself. All styles can be cool. If you are a dude ranch cowboy, you can be dope as hell, just don't try and that's cool to me.

What's your biggest accomplishment?

Basically last summer I lost my mind and in an instant decided I wanted to go to Bonaroo. I drove nine hours, I volunteered and didn't shower for ten days. I have never been awake for that long of a period before or met so many people. To me that's an accomplishment and an achievement because it's an event, but it's also a life lesson and you learn a lot about yourself. Being in a dusty, hellish place, with a ton of cool people.

How do you see businesses changing?

I see business changing. I see it being mobile but not in the terms of digital. I mean it can drop and pop-up anywhere. It's like owning a pita cart. You can pop up, move it anywhere and have it anywhere.
