The Chengdu Tianfu District Great City is Environmentally Conscious

There might already be some car-free cities, Venice is one easy example, but the Chengdu Tianfu District Great City is a modern version that will inspire other urban planners to follow suit. To be completed in about eight years, it is a self-sustaining, environmentally sensitive satellite city that will ensure residents will be able to walk from one location to another in no more than 15 minutes.

Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the Chengdu Tianfu District Great City will span only 1.3 square kilometer and be able to hold around 80,000 people. An answer to China's overburdened infrastructure, 48% less energy, 58% less water, produce 89% less landfill waste and generate 60% less carbon dioxide. It will be connected to surrounding cities via a mass transit system.
