Located at Hauptplatz in Austria, the new Linz09 Info-Center draws inspiration from the tagline, "Linz is province". They also tried to reflect new forms of ultra-modern lifestyle through the use of the red-and-white checkered tablecloth as a symbol of hospitality.
With an addition of bright lights, color and common open space, the architects didn’t use any other form of advertising for the new place. The checker tablecloth is the main symbolic piece for the tourist and locals to feel welcome.
This project provides an opportunity to address the cultural and regional impacts that arise from turning a historical landscape into a former Citizens Service Bureau Tax Office, then into a tourist spot. It’s a modern approach to announce that Linz is a 2009 European Capital of Culture.
