The Charles Long 'Pet Sounds' mixed-media installation is comprised of a collection of brightly colored pipes and handrails that come together to create blob-like seating arrangements.
Situated in the center of Madison Square Park in Manhattan, the peculiar sculptures are also interactive. When an onlooker gets close enough to one of the globule shaped sculptures they buzz and hum from speakers that are hidden inside.
Although none of the pieces particularly look like any commonly seen pet, they do react like an animal in that the interactive qualities are not unlocked unless a passerby pets one of the peculiar pieces.
While they aren't as cuddly and soft as most domesticated animals, the quirky sculptures are interesting to look at and can provide a source of quick companionship on a lonely stroll through the park.
