nea studio Crafted Chandeliers & Sconces from Locally Sourced Algae

nea studio's newest collection of chandeliers and sconces are unique in color and organic in nature since they are in fact made with algae. These illuminators are paired with frames made of brass or bronze, which help to instantly elevate the atmosphere of any interior space with luxe touches.

This innovative new collection of light fixtures from the award-winning specialist in interior design and architecture out of New York expresses the studio's commitment to the environment; the locally sourced marine algae used in the collection of sconces and chandeliers took nea studio eight years to find. Founder Edwards Anker said, "The idea of the lamps originated from a PhD research project about materials and light. I had been searching for biomaterials that were translucent and locally sourced to filter and soften the light of LED bulbs."

In the world of high-end design, algae is rapidly becoming a sought-after material that's interesting for its sculptural beauty and translucent qualities, especially as an alternative to plastic.
