The Cellulose Bowl Never Needs to Be Cleaned

While it may not look like much, the Cellulose Bowl from Tomorrow Machine and Inventia could very well be the start of something big. This bowl is made with a cellulose coating that makes it resistant to dirt and water. Cellulose is the stuff found inside of plant walls and wood, which explains why the Swedish Forest Industries Federation was the organization that commissioned the project.

In addition to being resistant to dirt and water, the Cellulose Bowl is also lightweight and tough, giving it a longer shelf life than ceramic bowls. The goal of the project was to create dishware that would cut down on the use of water and dish soap in the future. While you can’t exactly stock your kitchen with cellulose bowls and plates just yet, don’t be surprised if you see manufacturers make the switch from plastic and ceramic to cellulose sooner rather than later.
