Packaged Ocean Trash Campaigns

The 'Catch of the Day' Campaign Displays Debris Like Food

Another striking campaign from the Surfrider Foundation called 'Catch of the Day' uses beach trash to raise awareness for ocean pollution. The campaign placed trash found on beaches in America on styrofoam, plastic wrapped it and then threw a price tag on the package. The well-preserved trash was then placed on display at farmer's markets in order to increase attention about aquatic litter.

The campaign was created in conjunction with ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi LA. According to representatives at the ad agency, the promotion was built to let people know that "our oceans, and the marine life that swim in those waters, are choking on plastic debris."

By placing trash besides food, the campaign works to help people link their litter to their livelihoods. Wrapping up something grotesque like salvaged used condoms drives home the point that what we throw away affects us in the long run.
