Castoreum Whiskey Expressions

Tamworth Distillery Has Crafted a Unique Bourbon With Beaver Sacs

Flavored whiskeys range in a myriad of different expressions but Tamworth Distillery has created something truly unique with a limited edition castoreum whiskey. The castoreum, a substance secreted by beavers, was sourced by a local animal trapper and is meant to highlight the substance's history as a product of the food and perfume industry. According to Tamworth Distillery, "The sac excretion exhibits bright and fruity qualities (raspberry) and rich leathery notes along with a creamy vanilla aroma."

The castoreum whiskey, dubbed Eau De Musc, is rather elaborate and features notes of smoky spice, mint, wet hay, vanilla, wood sugar, saddle leather and waves of red fruit. The bourbon base works well with the castoreum and the spirit comes at 44% ABV.
