Cargill and Kotug Have Partnered for Sustainable Shipping

Cargill and Kotug have announced a new partnership that will help to reduce the emissions related to shipping as part of a wider shift towards more sustainable industry practices. The partnership will see Cargill utilizing Kotug International's E-Pusher and E-Barges to transport cocoa beans from the Port of Amsterdam to the brand's cocoa factory located in Zaandam, The Netherlands. The emissions-free vessels are equipped with cutting-edge propulsion systems to avoid the need for diesel and are expected to reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 190,000kg per year.

Cargill MD of Cocoa and Chocolate, Europe and West Africa Emiel van Dijk commented on the Cargill and Kotug partnership saying, "This ground-breaking achievement aligns with our mission to provide sustainable solutions to the maritime industry. By introducing the world’s first zero emission vessel of this set-up we aim to inspire other shipping companies, governments, and stakeholders to embrace clean energy solutions and make significant strides towards achieving the global climate goals for the next generation."
