Last night, Canon made an announcement about the release of their best DSLR to date, the Canon EOS-1D X. This brand new camera picks up where the 5D Mark II left off three years ago, by ensuring the Canon-branded cameras are leaders in the professional photography and video world.
Amazingly, the Canon EOS-1D X is built from magnesium alloy making it almost completely weather proof. The still-image user will have a field day with the camera, as it can shoot up to 12 frames per second, includes an 18-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and dual DIGIC 5+ image processors.
For video use, the 1D X is Canon’s first camera to exceed the 4GB filming limit. The file-splitting function allows continuous recording up to 30 minutes by separating the footage into multiple 4GB files with no frames dropped. The files can then be easily connected using video-editing software. Another impressive feature is the audio recording meter that can be seen on the screen and adjusted while recording.
The Canon EOS-1D X will have a price tag of around $6,800 and will be hitting the shelves by March 2012. Start saving up, because this camera is going to set a brand new bar for DSLRs.
