Cannes Film Festival Bridges the Gap With 'UP'

As the curtains at the Cannes Film Festival rose, an unexpected film kicked off the event.

Shockingly enough, a cartoon (animated for the higher educated) was the film chosen to kick off the illustrious event. Disney/Pixar’s ‘UP’ is the first animated movie to ever open the Cannes Film Festival.

It seems as though the people at the Cannes Film Festival are bridging the gap between the animated and the live-action, but also the old and the new (as the movie so elegantly displays).

‘Up’ is a movie about a 78-year-old balloon salesmen who flies to South America (with helium balloons tied to his house) only to find he’s accidentally brought along an 8-year-old Boy Scout.

‘Up’ creates a relationship between two generations, which is what I believe the Cannes Film Festival is also trying to do. Watch for these two cartoon comrades in theaters May 29th.
