Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance Experiments with Material in New Range

French designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance has found an interesting use for burnt cork in a new contemporary furniture range. Launched through the professional’s Portugal-based studio—known as Made in Situ—the capsule consists of various chairs and tables that take on "sinuous forms and a gradient of textures."

The Burnt Cork collection is a foray into sustainable design as the primary material is usually identified as an industrial waste product. Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance brought his own twist into the manufacturing process. The inspiration to do this line of furniture developed over the course of years. The designer was fascinated by the power of fire and after a visit to NF Cork, a small family-owned facility in Faro, the idea came to him—this was "[an] opportunity to finally make a creation that was born from fire."
