Imagine that you are a sniper out in the field with your M110 rifle. You’re looking for the ideal position from which to fire the perfect shot, but the weather is terrible. Between the wind, temperature, humidity, altitude, and atmospheric pressure, how can you be sure where your bullet will land?

Knights Armament Corp., supplier of sniper rifles to the military, has come up with a solution, and it involves a mobile phone. This iPhone mounting system is paired with software that will tell you where the shot will land relative to your line of sight. Just enter the parameters, and the ballistics calculator will make your work as a sniper easy as pie.

"We have seen some cool iPhone applications come out for shooting sports. But nothing comes close to the sheer awesomeness of the Knights Armaments M110 iPod Touch mount and accompanying ballistics software," said one spectator.

The sniper M110 rifle is a 7.62 x 51mm semi-automatic system that has won the Army’s competition to change the old M24 bolt action sniper system. The rifle is based on the SR-25, which was in turn based on the Stoners’ AR-10 design.

KAC has developed a mounting system for iPhone that attaches to a side-mounted picatinny rail. The mount is also attached to an Otter box protective case.

Bullet Fight is the name given to the external ballistic calculator which serves as the standard ballistic application. You can use it to set weapon and bullet profiles, then call up the saved profile and enter your environment details such as the distance, wind direction, elevation, and temperature.
