Woven Cattle Art

A Wool Skeleton Buffalo Sculpture Stands Realistically Life-Like

Artist Emily White's hand-crafted sculpted bovine buffalo 'American Bison/Prairie House' is so aesthetically authentic that if it wasn't for half of its skeletal wood framework showing, I would have believed it was real.

Composed of red oak, wool-like felt fabric, cast iron and timber, this life size Buffalo was pieced together completely by hand and stands proudly in Philadelphia. The forefront of the bovine beast is arranged with hand-dyed brown wool felt used to mimic a buffalo's shaggy fur.

Each felt piece was then carefully hung and distorted. The rear end of the buffalo is left entirely bare with only its skeletal framework showing. The striking contrast between the nakedness of the wood skeleton and the thickly-clad face of the buffalo is simply breathtaking. And if you like unconventional art pieces and cattle, both the mock-up model and the finished product are looking to go to a good home.
