Scientist and artist Brandon Ballengee has created a series of beautiful images of translucent frogs, tadpoles and toads.
Brandon Ballengee series is called Malamp – Reliquaries and it is created through a process of scanning the bodies of tadpoles, frogs, and toads "with the clearing and staining technique." Ballengee placed these amphibians in the center in order to give the illusion they were floating. He states that he deliberately scaled the images to make the frogs, toads, and tadpoles be approximately the size of a toddler in order elicit empathy instead of fear and detachment. In addition to the sizing, Brandon Ballengee also chose animals that had physical deformities, such as an extra or missing limb.
It is often said that science and art are two sides of the same coin; Brandon Ballengee's work is a perfect example of this statement.
