Bourne Blue Architecture Has Created an Australian Oasis

Bourne Blue Architecture is the firm behind a renovated home just outside of Newcastle, Australia. The house was formerly a 70s project home with weak environmental performance and poor relation to the surrounding land. The architects sought to improve the home's sustainability and better integrate it into the yard.

The original living areas were converted into bedrooms and bathrooms, while an additional wing was added to contain the kitchen and living spaces. The wing opens out towards the yard and features sliding glass doors for a better view. A roofed BBQ area has been constructed in the space between the secondary wing and the garage.

The pitched roof allowed the architects to install high level louvre windows, which improve the overall ventilation of the home. Moreover, the roof water is collected in tanks for reuse. Another sustainable element of the home is the low energy LED lights.
