Neo-Retro Tube Clocks

The Blub Uno by Duncan Hellmers is Inspired by 1950s Technology

With everything trying to take on what 2050 will look like, one designer has decided to look to the 1950s for some inspiration instead with his Blub Uno clock. Taking on the retro tube clock, Blub Uno displays numbers digitally in a way that was used before LCD technology was invented -- by using Nixie tubes.

Of course, the Blub Uno tube clock does boast some modern updates including being powered by USB and controlled by a remote control. Created by Sydney-based designer Duncan Hellmers, he has given people the option to change the backlighting color and to select a display mode of direct, fade or crossfade. The Blub Uno marks a desire for simpler times as well as designs that as visually interesting as they are practical.
