Hybrid Land Helicopters

The Black Knight Transformer Fuses a Helicopter with an Off-Road Vehicle

The Black Knight Transformer, an extraordinary vehicle that combines the capabilities of a helicopter and an off-road vehicle, recently completed flight tests at an undisclosed location in Southern California. The vehicle is being developed by California-based military and civil aerospace engineering company Advanced Tactics.

The Black Knight Transformer can either be flown by an on-board or remote pilot. It can autonomously carry out casualty evacuations and resupply missions. The vehicle has eight rotors, with a high-speed feedback control system maintaining a balance between the thrust of different rotors in order to provide stability and control.

Advanced Tactics says that the flight test of the 1,995 kilogram prototype was successful, paving the way for research and development of other modular and road-ready aircraft with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities.
