London's New Free Bike Program Will Use Advertisements to Stay Afloat

A new bike program in London England, entitled 'Buzzbike,' will be free for commuters.

Intended to continue the shift in popularity towards environmentally friendly transportation options, Buzzbike designs beautiful bikes that are offered free for commuters. The only catch is that the commuters must promise to bike to their jobs for at least 12 days out of the month and lock the bike on a street.

A device tracks whether or not the bike is being used often enough and if it isn't, it is confiscated. Users must pay a $100 deposit that is given back once the bike has been confiscated or returned. The bikes will feature advertisements in order for the business to make a profit -- which explains why the bikes must be parked in public view.

Not only is this bike program friendly to the environment, it provides quirky affordable transport to people of lower-income backgrounds.
