Eccentric Beauty Pageants

Alternative Miss World is Quite a Colorful Competition

There is nothing revolutionary about beauty competitions. They use the same basic formula every year and unless someone like Carrie Prejean makes a prejudicial comment, there isn’t much to talk about.

Alternative Miss World is a different type of pageant. Founded by sculptor Andrew Logan in 1972, the competition has grown enormously. He states that this event is "not about beauty but transformation, making the ordinary extraordinary via outlandish costume and creative free rein."

Contestants dress up in over-the-top, outlandish outfits--in everything from mesh to feathered fashions--and compete for the coveted title.
