The Bearmind Helmet Detects for Injuries and More

The Bearmind helmet is an intelligence piece of safety equipment for hockey players to help them stay protected from injuries, while also keeping an eye out for signs of concussions and more.

The helmet was developed by the Switzerland-based startup by Mathieu Falbriard and Tom Bertrand in affiliation with the EPFL research institute, and functions just like a traditional hockey helmet. The helmet, however, is integrated with a small oval module that fits into the rear where it will utilize a pressure sensor, inertial measurement unit (IMU), battery and Bluetooth chip to detect for issues. The helmet will then relay this information in real-time to the coach's smartphone off the ice.

The accompanying app for the Bearmind helmet provides insights like the severity of impacts based on a range of data to help coaches determine if medical attention is required.
