The BC Children's Hospital Employs VR to Distract Kids

Virtual reality technology has countless applications for entertainment, but some are actually utilizing it to ease the fear of going to the doctor — the BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver is a great example of this.

Medical treatments can often be daunting and painful, especially for kids. The goal of introducing VR technology within the context of the hospital is to find ways of alleviating stress and anxiety from medical procedures, however uncomfortable that may be.

A total of 20 pairs of virtual reality goggles were distributed throughout the BC Children's Hospital's departments earlier this year. This is believed to be "a Canadian first." Children will be able to experience a 360-degree view of a simulated rollercoaster, while the doctor is conducting the medical procedure.
